Buildings Over Twenty Stories to Be Outlawed in Central Seoul

The construction of buildings over twenty stories will be prohibited in the center of Seoul and building heights will be limited in accordance with the characteristics of streets in the area.
It will also be prohibited to designate new redevelopment zones in areas of Seoul well known to foreigners such as Myong-dong, Insa-dong and Pukchang-dong.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on July 7 that it has drawn up plans to control development in the central area of Seoul and has decided to put the plans into effect step by step from the year 2000, after gauging the opinions of Seoul citizens on their enforcement.
According to the plan, the core area of Seoul including Chongno street will be specified as a special traffic control zone and a bid to create a parking lot there will be denied.
