Seoul Registers High Number of Autos in June
In June, Seoul saw the highest number of registered automobiles since the Korean economy was forced to receive a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).According to the 'June's Automobile Registrations', released by the Seoul Metropolitan Government on July 8, the total number of registered vehicles in Seoul as of the end of last month reached 2.227 million, 7,879 units more than that of May.
This figure indicates the average number of registered automobiles in June rose by 263 daily in Seoul, almost twice the daily average recorded between January and May of this year in which 29,000 additional cars were registered.
The number of vehicles registered in Seoul had continued to diminish since December 1997, but began to increase from last January thanks to the recovery of the Korean economy.
