&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Bush thinks God picked him to lead

A recent Newsweek cover story on “Bush & God” reminded us once again that President Bush feels he was “called” to seek the presidency, chosen by God to lead the United States at this time, hand-picked, so to speak.
This prompted my sister back home in Minnesota to ponder, isn’t it interesting how God has chosen to speak to Mr. Bush about going to war in Iraq and to no one else? No prominent religious leaders. Not even the Bishop of Bush’s own United Methodist Church.
Representatives of the National Council of Churches met in Berlin in January with church leaders from Europe and the Middle East and issued a statement saying, among much else, “Pre-emptive military strikes and war as a means to change the regime of a sovereign state are immoral and in violation of the UN Charter.”
Why is President Bush so reluctant to talk with his own good bishop about the war. He could probably even answer for him the very timely question, “Whom Would Jesus Bomb?”
