Mobile service firms to offer multimedia
KTF and LG Telecom, two of the nation’s three mobile service providers, said yesterday that they would begin marketing mobile handsets that can receive land-based digital multimedia broadcasting. In line with the plan, Korea’s major mobile phone makers Samsung and LG released DMB phones, which cost around 600,000 won ($59). According to a high-level manager from Samsung Electronics, worldwide demand for land-based video-on-the-move is expected to stand at 330,000 units this year and could reach 4 million by 2010.
