BAT Rothmans' 'Ggot Bat' campaign aims to clean up Seoul's alleys

Employees of BAT Rothmans, the Korean unit of British tobacco company BAT Group, participated in a community campaign titled “Ggot Bat,” or flower bed in Korean, aimed at transforming Seoul's alleyways.

Approximately 80 employees joined the campaign, which is part of the company's broader environmental, social and governance efforts. They engaged in activities such as cleaning up garbage and planting spring flora like rhododendrons and portulaca, targeting areas known for litter.

This year's campaign included collaborations with the Korean National Council for Conservation of Nature (Knccn) Seoul Special City Committee and the Jung District Office. Together, they focused on improving neighborhoods within Jung District, central Seoul, which are affected by illegal dumping, including Eulji-ro, Myeong-dong, and Heungin-dong.

BAT Rothmans plans to establish 20 flower beds throughout the year.

“The Ggot Bat campaign is a collaborative project that involves not just our organization but all members of the local community,” said Song Young-jae, country manager of BAT Rothmans. “Through this initiative, we aim to heighten awareness of the importance of environmental protection while also encouraging more individuals to actively participate in beautifying and caring for their local areas.”
