Afghan honesty
Nineteen South Koreans freed by the Taliban/ finally returned home to their loved ones Sunday.
(아프가니스탄에서) 탈레반에 풀려난 한국인 19명이/ 일요일 마침내 사랑하는 가족들의 품이 있는 고국으로 귀환했다.
It is with great relief that/ we can now discuss this incident in the past tense.
크나큰 안도를 하면서/ 우리가 이제야 이 사태를 과거시제로 논의할 수 있게 되었다.
Now, it is time to be honest. 자, 이젠 솔직해질 시간이다.
The fundamental nature of this incident is terrorism on the part of the Taliban,/ and we will not forget the atrocity that group committed.
이번 사태의 근본적인 성질(본질)은 탈레반 측의 테러 행위이며/ 우리는 이 무장단체가 저지른 만행을 결코 잊지 않을 것이다.
That being said,/ we also cannot help mentioning the neckless nature of overseas missions/ conducted by Christian churches in Korea.

By violating international principles/ and directly negotiating with a terrorist group,/ our country has invited censure from other countries.
국제사회의 원칙을 어기고/ 테러 집단과 직접 협상을 함으로써,/ 우리나라는 다른 나라들로부터 비난을 초래했다.
Korean churches cannot escape the scathing criticism/ that their aggressive missionary work put the lives of several innocent young people in dire jeopardy.

We believe the government did its best against all odds.

Despite the unsatisfactory and regrettable points of this incident,/ our society should not engage in vicious mudslinging and blaming of one another.
이번 사태에서 불만스럽고 아쉬운 점이 있음에도 불구하고,/ 우리 사회는 서로에 대해 중상하고 비방하는데 열을 올려선 안 된다.
All parties involved should reflect on what they did wrong in this incident/ and concentrate on how to make their wrongs right,/ so that this kind of tragedy will not happen again.
모든 관련당사자들은 이번 사태를 계기로 각자 잘못한 일을 반성해야 하고/ 잘못을 바로잡을 것은 바로잡는데 집중하여/ 두 번 다시는 이런 종류의 비극이 일어나지 않도록 해야 할 것이다.
