[Sponsored Report] Ssangyong E&C making inroads in Indonesia

Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. recently announced that it has won a $26 million order from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to work on the Aceh Road/Bridge Reconstruction and Rehabilitation project in Indonesia, a major coup for the company.

The project involves reconstructing and upgrading the 13-kilometer seaside road that stretches from Banda Aceh to Calang as well as four bridges in Indonesia that were severely damaged during the devastating tsunami in 2004. A total of five companies participated in the bid for the reconstruction project, including the top Indonesian firm PT. Hutama Karya.

Officials behind the project lauded Ssangyong E&C for its work on similar projects in the past, including the reconstruction of 104 kilometers of road in Indonesia back in 2007. The company won that bid from USAID as well.

“Based on our history of continuously winning orders from the U.S. Agency for International Development, we expect to get even more projects from USAID for construction in both developing and underdeveloped countries going forward,” an executive from Ssangyong E&C said.

Meanwhile, Ssangyong E&C successfully wrapped up construction of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore in June. The company also recently completed the Plaza Indonesia Extension as well as the Tanjung Priok Tank Terminal and Jambi-Muara Bungo Road projects. Combined, the company has handled 27 projects - including a dozen focused on roads - in Indonesia alone.
