[CARD NEWS: Opinion] Korean BJs use vulgar language, and teenagers copy them.

테스트

In Korea, people known as BJs (broadcast jockeys) earn money by live-streaming themselves online. However, their lewd manners are now coming under fire.

테스트

1) “I bet you could barely make ends meet during your entire life. You won’t be able to get married, never ever, just living like trash in a house like a litter.”

2) “What, you crippled asshole? People shun such an asshole like you!”

3) “Hey asshole, do you want me to bury and kill your mom?”

4) “A specky wuss like you should be just dumped into that clothing bin.”

5) One-person internet broadcasting is a hot media trend in Korea. Some well known BJs – short of broadcast jockeys – are as popular as celebrities, and make over 100 million won ($86,450) a month.

6) The live-streaming broadcast category is burgeoning. They produce fresh content which has never been tried in traditional media and communicate with their viewers in real-time.

7) However, many BJs’ obscene manners are recently arousing controversy as they attempt to attract more viewers amid fierce competition.

8) Disparaging viewers as handicapped or poor is common. Their abusive use of language has reached new extremes.

10) The rate of teenage viewers of live-streaming broadcasts: 26.7 percent

One out four teenagers on average watch these broadcasts, which makes the phenomenon even more important.

11) Recently, very lewd terms and expletives are often used as everyday language among teenagers. Some terms are “ang-gimotti” and “negeumma,” which are respectively an exclamation often used by the Japanese porn actresses and slang degrading mothers.

12) These terms became buzzwords among the teenage viewers, as they follow BJs who want to appeal to viewers by using provocative language.

13) Hitting the heads of elementary-school kids and running away
Secretly turning off a computer and running away
Holding a competition to make fun of parents

Such wrongdoings above are commonly done by some BJs during the live broadcasting time. The teenaged viewers are exposed to their deeds, which can sometimes be criminal.

14) “There is no means of regulating the misconduct and misuse of language on the internet broadcast.”
– an official from the Korea Communications Standards Commission

The voices demanding strong regulation on such extreme internet broadcasts are growing.

15) On the other side, a number of people are against the demand, saying that the regulation will violate freedom of expression.
There is nothing to do with the current situation besides guiding BJs to control themselves.

16) While the government neglects this phenomenon, teenagers are falling under BJs influence more and more.
We must deter the youth from being exposed to such craziness before it’s too late.
