Teens claim Dokdo for Korea

Japanese teenagers of Korean descent visited the Dokdo islands last Friday to celebrate the upcoming 60th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japan.
The visit was organized by the National Council of Youth Organizations in Korea and the mobile telecommunications carrier KTF,which invited 16 Korean-Japanese teenagers from Tokyo and Osaka, along with 16 teenagers from Korea. Upon touching down, the teenagers waved the Korean flag, shouting, “Dokdo belongs to Korea! We protect Dokdo!”
“I only knew that Dokdo was a small island located between Korea and Japan,” said Shin Tae-su, a 14-year-old from Tokyo. “Now I know that Dokdo is Korean territory.”
Assertions earlier this year by some Japanese officials that Dokdo is Japan’s have stirred many demonstrations of Dokdo-related patriotism in Korea.
“These Korean-Japanese students will play an important role in informing the Japanese people about Korean history,” said Shin Hong-ky, the council’s secretary-general.
