Presidential data said to vanish

The Grand National Party yesterday claimed that original disks of the “e-jiwon” system carrying presidential records vanished when the disks were changed last December.

On the first day of the National Assembly’s audit into government agencies, GNP lawmaker Lee Jin-bok said that a total of 238 original disks, including the 72-terabyte presidential records of President Roh Moo-hyun’s administration, disappeared.

According to the lawmaker, the Roh government extracted the original disks and then put in new disks before President Lee Myung-bak took office on February. Lee added that no one in the Blue House knows where the originals are.

Lee also claims that the records Roh returned to the National Archives last July account for only 25 percent of all of the presidential information.
