U.S. Will Donate Food Aid to North
The Bush administration has decided to donate 100,00 tons of food aid this year to North Korea on humanitarian grounds, according to a diplomatic source in Seoul Wednesday."The Departments of State and Agriculture and other related departments are discussing when to publicly announce it," the source said.
The would be the first time that the United States sent food aid to the North since the Bush administration took office.
The aid under consideration amounts to 31 percent of the aid sent last year to the North, which was channeled through the World Food Program and totaled 320,000 tons.
Washington plans to allot more than $20 million for the latest aid, according to the American Embassy in Seoul.
