&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Give drivers a chance to check speed

Here is a word to the police who manage speed-limit cameras.

I use my car to get around to do my business. Almost every day, I have to go on a highway or a country road. It is not difficult to find cameras that take pictures of people speeding beyond the legal limits. However, I rarely find speed-limit notices nearby. This brings about many inconveniences.

The highway speed limit is almost the same nationwide. But suburban roads have limits ranging from 30 to 70 kilometers an hour (18 to 43 mph). With such a broad range, one can easily be speeding without knowing it. Also, a driver who spots a camera may decrease speed too drastically. A following car could run into it.

Stationary cameras have notices of their existence. Why can't we post the speed limit a few meters ahead so that drivers would know clearly the right speed limit?
