KT hails wireless Net growth

KT Corp. yesterday celebrated the success of its wireless high-speed Internet service, Nespot, which now has more than 500,000 subscribers. At a ceremony yesterday, Hahn Won-sic, vice president in charge of fixed-mobile convergence business at KT, said that there were 502,031 people using Nespot as of yesterday, the largest number of wireless high-speed Internet subscribers in the world. Mr. Hahn also said that Korea’s largest telecommunications company will expand the areas where people can use Nespot to 170,000 by the end of this year. Currently there are 13,222 hot spots, including Hana Bank, COEX Mall, Pizza Hut and Dunkin’ Donuts. KT is planning to begin an e-mail service like BlackBerry’s on its Nespot Swing phones, which can act as a personal digital assistant and mobile phone, beginning later this month. At the celebration, KT also introduced new devices using Nespot, such as a machine that feeds pets at home when its owner clicks on a mobile gadget. by Park Sung-ha
