Korea, Mexico sign communication accord
South Korea and Mexico signed a cooperation accord in the fields of information technology and digital broadcasting, especially for television services on mobile phones, officials said yesterday. The agreement was signed in Mexico by Chin Dae-je, South Korea’s information and communication minister and Jorge Alvarez, Mexico’s vice telecom and transportation minister on Thursday, the Korean ministry said in a statement. The accord lays the groundwork for South Korean companies to export terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) handsets and solutions to Mexico, the statement said. The so-called T-DMB technology, which promises to allow users to watch crystal-clear digital TV programming on mobile phone screens using signals from conventional land-based transmitters, was initiated by the South Korean government.
