HD Hyundai's vice chairman and CEO, Chung Ki-sun, will serve as co-chair at the Special Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from Sunday to Monday.

This marks the first special meeting organized by the WEF outside of its traditional winter and summer Davos forums. The gathering, with the theme of "Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development," will bring together more than 900 international leaders, including heads of state and government, as well as pundits from the public and private sectors.

Chung has been selected as one of the 16 co-chairs, and is the only Korean delegate.

He participated in the Forum's annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, last year and this year.

During the two-day event, Chung and the other co-chairs will engage in dialogues aimed at enhancing global collaboration and catalyzing collective international action to devise sustainable solutions in a world marked by fast energy transition, HD Hyundai said Sunday.

Chung will also leverage the platform to reinforce his company's partnerships in eco-friendly businesses, particularly in shipbuilding and hydrogen-related projects. These discussions will involve Chair of Maersk Robert Maersk Uggla and Saudi Aramco President and CEO Amin Nasser, who are also co-chairs.

"This meeting is convened to address the universal growth of the global economy and the imbalance in energy accessibility," Chung said. "As HD Hyundai's future vision also embodies sustainable growth for humanity, we will strive to enhance global cooperation to create a better future."

The conglomerate's long-standing partnership with Saudi Arabia includes the International Maritime Industries joint shipyard and a blue hydrogen cooperation project with Saudi Aramco as well as power and equipment supply and construction for Saudi Arabia's Neom City project.
