Standard Chartered First Bank, also known as SC First Bank, opened a new branch in Gangnam earlier this month that boasts a futuristic interior, innovative design and the latest in high-tech systems. This state-of-the-art branch is conveniently located on the first floor of the Glass Tower building near exit No. 7 of Gangnam Station.

The new branch, launched as part of a project by Standard Chartered Group to open locations featuring innovative designs, presents a sophisticated interior and the world’s first intelligent queuing system. It also has advanced video conferencing and digital merchandising systems - the first for a bank branch in Korea.

“The newly opened Gangnam Station branch is expected to provide differentiated services, appeal to the next generation of customers and increase customer transactions through its innovative design and systems,” said Kim Young-il, head of consumer banking at SC First Bank. “I hope the sophisticated open-style interior and various state-of-the-art systems will allow customers who visit the branch to have more than just a banking experience - I hope it also encourages customers to purchase more products and recommend us to their family and friends.”

The SC First branch has three high-tech systems making their debut in the banking industry in Korea and - in one case - the world:

* Intelligent queuing system (IQS) - SC First’s branch at Gangnam Station is the first bank location in the world to employ an intelligent queuing system that uses RFID tags.

When a customer holding an RFID tag passes through the entrance of the branch, the system automatically notifies the branch manager and relationship manager.

This gives the customer the opportunity to receive customized service without having to wait in line. The RFID tags will be provided to select Preferred Banking, Priority Banking and Private Banking customers who visit the branch frequently, are open to new technology and have strong relations with the bank.

* Video conferencing system

The branch uses a high-definition video conferencing system that links to the head office. The technology, the first of its kind in Korea in the banking industry, allows SC First to provide in-depth customer consultation in the areas of investments and taxes. Based on their needs, customers can receive consultation from investment specialists based in the head office on an appointment basis. Investment advice will be provided by a team comprised of two investment consultants and one tax accountant.

* Digital merchandising system

The Gangnam branch is the first bank location in Korea to adopt a digital merchandising system that incorporates a large digital touch-screen and a video system. This system is installed in the lobby and entrance of the Gangnam branch, enabling customers to enjoy various video content ranging from the latest foreign exchange rates to product information. In addition, customers can use the system to participate in events, play games and select tailored products.

SC First Bank hopes to expand this state-of-the-art concept to other branches in the future.
