Missing woman’s body found in sack by river

BUSAN - A 50-year-old homemaker who had gone missing for 50 days was found dead in a hiking sack near Nakdong River on Saturday and police are questioning the victim’s estranged husband, who is a college professor, in connection with the apparent murder.

According to Busan Bukbu Police, a group of environmentalists who were picking up garbage along Nakdong River on Saturday discovered a 1-meter-long (3.2-foot) black hiking sack on the riverside, with the woman’s body inside, about 2 p.m.

The woman’s body was tied up with metal chains, according to police. Police said the victim’s body was severely decomposed. After comparing fingerprints of the victim and the missing homemaker surnamed Park, they identified the victim.

Police launched a probe on April 5 after Park’s brother told investigators that his sister hadn’t returned home and he could not reach her since she left her home in Busan on April 2.

Police mobilized helicopters and searched Nakdong River and Geumjeong Mountain, but they failed to locate her.

Forensic doctors who examined Park’s body said it is likely that she was strangled because there were marks on her neck. An autopsy will be performed today.

Police said they will continue questioning the husband surnamed Kang and will seek a warrant to detain him. Kang, 52, has been flatly denying his involvement since he was arrested by investigators on Saturday.

Noting that Park’s cell phone was turned off at 12:33 a.m. on April 3 near her husband’s apartment in Mandeok-dong and Kang called someone two minutes before at 12:31 a.m. near Mandeok Tunnel, police suspect Kang met his wife before she went missing. Police said the couple married in March last year, but they lived separately six months later after the husband filed for divorce in January.

실종된 부산의 대학교수 부인 박현숙(50)씨가 50일 만에 변사체로 발견됐다.

　21일 오후 2시쯤 부산시 사하구 을숙도대교 부근 낙동강에서 환경단체 회원들이 정화활동을 하던 중 등산용 가방 속에 엎드린 채 숨져 있는 박씨를 발견해 경찰에 신고했다. 시신은 빨랫줄과 체인으로 묶여 있었고 가방 안에 마대 자루도 들어 있었다. 경찰은 시신의 부패가 심해 지문감식을 통해 신원을 확인했다.

　경찰은 박씨의 남편 강모(52)씨를 유력한 용의자로 보고 긴급체포해 조사하고 있다. 경찰은 박씨가 2일 저녁 부산 북구 화명동의 집을 나와 택시를 타고 해운대의 한 콘도 앞에서 내린 것을 폐쇄회로TV(CCTV)를 통해 확인했다. 그 후 박씨의 휴대전화는 3일 오전 0시33분 남편 집 근처인 만덕동에서 꺼졌다. 강씨는 박씨의 휴대전화가 꺼지기 2분 전인 0시31분 집 근처에서 다른 사람과 통화한 것으로 통화기록 조회에서 나타났다.

　경찰은 강씨가 부인과 함께 있었던 사실을 부인하고 있지만 두 사람이 해운대에서 만덕동으로 함께 이동한 증거로 보고 있다. 경찰 관계자는 ＂박씨의 사망 시점은 외출 당일인 것으로 보인다”며 ＂박씨는 어디선가 살해돼 낙동강에 버려진 것 같다”고 말했다.

　경찰은 강씨의 승용차를 압수해 DNA분석 작업을 벌이고 있다. 경찰은 압수한 강씨의 그랜저 승용차 트렁크에서 박씨가 외출 당일 꽂고 나간 것으로 보이는 머리핀을, 차량 뒤쪽 시트에서는 혈흔을 발견했다. 강씨의 컴퓨터를 분석한 결과 ‘사체 없는 살인’과 같은 인터넷 검색 기록도 찾아냈다. 경찰은 또 지난달 6일 강씨가 자신의 휴대전화를 바꾼 사실을 밝혀내고 우발적이 아니라 치밀하게 사건을 준비한 것으로 보고 있다.

　 경찰은 박씨 시신 발견 장소 부근을 10여 일 동안 집중 수색했으나 그동안 가방을 발견하지 못했다고 밝혔다. 따라서 경찰은 가방이 체인의 무게로 가라앉아 있다가 시신이 부패하면서 물 위로 떠오른 것으로 보고 있다.

　강씨는 현재 변호사 입회 하에 경찰 조사를 받고 있으며 혐의를 부인하고 있다고 경찰은 밝혔다. 경찰은 긴급체포 제한 시간(48시간 이내)인 23일 저녁까지 수사를 한 뒤 구속영장을 신청할 계획이다.

　박씨는 지난해 3월 강씨와 재혼을 했지만 성격 문제 등으로 결혼 6개월 뒤부터 남편과 별거해오다 올 1월 남편이 이혼소송을 제기해 협의이혼 절차를 밟고 있었다. 박씨의 실종이 길어지자 박씨의 친정 식구들이 1억원의 사례금을 내걸고 제보자를 찾기도 했다.
