Jeju striker awake after heart attack, coma

Jeju United striker Shin Young-rok, who collapsed after suffering from a heart attack during a K-League match against Daegu FC last month, has regained consciousness after 50 days in a coma.

Cheju Halla Hospital notified the club yesterday that the 24-year-old striker is on his way to recovery and announced yesterday he was transferred to its general care unit.

Shin opened his eyes about 30 days ago, but failed to respond to any stimuli.

The former Suwon Bluewings striker has received medical treatment for low body temperature and epilepsy ever since he suffered the arrhythmia at the match.

Jeju United said it is too early to say when Shin will fully recover, but added that it is still a good sign that he is gradually improving.

Shin, who made his professional debut in 2003 with Suwon, played for Bursaspor in Turkey in 2009 and returned to the K-League last year. He has played in three international matches for Korea.
