K-League goals champ moves to Saudi Arabia

Yoo Byung-soo, the reigning scoring champion in the K-League for Incheon United, has joined a Saudi Arabian club, the Incheon team said yesterday.

According to Incheon, Yoo has agreed to a three-year deal with Al Hilal, the defending champion in the Saudi Professional League.

The 23-year-old led the K-League in scoring with 22 goals in 31 matches last season. The first overall draft pick in 2009, Yoo had 14 goals in his debut season.

“I’d like to thank my Incheon fans, and I am sorry that I have to move suddenly,” Yoo said through a team statement. “I will play hard and try to win the scoring title in Saudi Arabia, too.”

Incheon head coach Huh Jung-moo said the transfer is a big loss for the team, but it will be better for Yoo’s future.

“He’s a proven player,” Huh said. “Hopefully, he can reach an even bigger stage after playing in Saudi Arabia.”
