Inter-Korean match set for tonight

South Korea’s women’s volleyball team will face North Korea for the first time since 1992 at the quarterfinal stage of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in Taiwan.

South Korea confirmed its berth by taking second place behind Japan in Group F, while North Korea got its pass by finishing third in Group E on Monday. The two Koreas will square off tonight at 10 p.m. (KST) for the semifinal slot.

The last time they met was 19 years ago at the NHK Cup Volleyball Tournament in Japan. South Korea leads their all-time head-to-head record with five wins and two losses. In fact, since 1974, South Korea has not lost to North Korea.

“It is going to be South Korea’s offense versus North Korea’s defense,” South Korea head coach Kim Hyung-sil told Yonhap News Agency.
