2011.12.30 Weekend Picks

KBL

* Seoul Samsung Thunders (6-25) at Anyang Korea Ginseng Corporation (23-8)
* Anyang Gymnasium, Anyang, Gyeonggi
* Saturday, 3 p.m.

The KGC, No. 2 in the league table, hosts the league-bottom Thunders to overcome their shocking defeat on Tuesday against the Goyang Orions.

Anyang is the league’s best offensive team, scoring 79.1 points per game.

Star rookie Oh Se-keun is the core of its attack. He is averaging 16.52 points and 7.94 rebounds per game. The KGC is also first in steals, collecting almost 10 per game.

The Thunders will match Oh with forward Lee Seung-jun and try to score with their foreign player Joe Ira Clark who is netting 23 points per game.

The KGC has not lost to the Thunders this season, winning all three previous games.

V-League

* Seoul Dream Six (7-10) at Suwon Kepco 45 (11-6)
* Seongnam Gymnasium, Seongnam, Gyeonggi
* Saturday, 2 p.m.

Kepco was in second place in the V-League until the second round, but has slipped to fourth place, collecting only two wins in the third round. However, Kepco has won the previous two encounters against the Dream Six.

Kepco’s offense is led by Croatian attacker Andjelko Cuk and rookie Seo Jae-duk, but the absence of Park Jun-bum, who is out due to a shoulder injury, is a big blow to the team.

Kepco’s veteran center Bang Sin-bong is currently second in blocks in this round with 0.85 per set.

The Dream Six scores with Choi Hong-suk, top contender for Rookie of the Year, and Kim Jung-hwan, while center Shin Yung-suk contributes blocks.

WKBL

* Yongin Samsung Life Bichumi (12-10) at Bucheon Shinsegae Coolcat (7-14)
* Bucheon Gymnasium, Bucheon, Gyeonggi
* Friday 5 p.m.

The Coolcat, currently fifth in the league, will look to end their four-game losing streak against the third place Bichumi at home.

The Coolcat is the league’s second best offensive team, thanks to league’s top scorer Kim Jung-eun who is averaging 19.9 points per game. She is also No. 1 in 3-point percentage at 40 percent.

The Bichumi has guard Lee Mi-sun, who is the league leader in assists and steals, but she is doubtful to play in this game due to an ankle injury. The team will have to rely on center Kim Kye-reong - the No. 6 scorer in the league - for its offense.

The Bichumi has won the previous four encounters against the Coolcat this season.
