KGC claims first regular season titleThe Daejeon Korea Ginseng Corporation women’s volleyball team (KGC) beat the Hwaseong IBK Altos to claim its first V-League regular season title on Saturday.
At Hwaseong Gymnasium in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, the KGC beat the Altos 3-2 (22-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-12), garnering 56 points with 18 wins and nine losses in the league table.
The KGC still has three games left, but regardless of the results of the remaining games, the team has secured the regular season title because it is mathematically impossible for runner-up Seongnam Korea Expressway Hi-pass Zenith to collect more points.
This was the KGC’s first regular season title since the V-League started in 2005. The KGC have two championship trophies from 2005 and 2010, but finished as runner-up in the two regular seasons.
With the victory, the KGC will advance directly to the championship series and collect a prize of 70 million won.
The team will square off against the playoff winner in the best-of-five championship series that starts March 31.
