Kim Char-young earns first professional win

Kim Char-young claimed her first victory in the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Tour yesterday after winning the 2012 Woori Investment & Securities Ladies Championship.

At the West Course of the Lakeside Country Club in Yongin, Gyeonggi, Kim beat Lee Mi-rim in the first playoff hole at the par-4 18th and claimed the winner’s trophy with 100 million won ($85,600). Both golfers entered the extra round after finishing the three-round regulation at 12-under 204.

In the first playoff hole, 21-year-old Kim landed her second shot to bunker, but managed to get par, while 22-year-old Lee made a bogey.

Lee Min-young finished third at 11-under, and Lee Sung-woon was fourth. Kim Hyo-ju, the 17-year-old amateur who won the Lotte Mart Women’s Open last month, was tied for fifth at nine under par.
