SK Hynix announces creation of first 8 gigabit DRAM module

SK Hynix said yesterday that it has developed the world’s first module for a 20-nanometer eight gigabit DDR4 dynamic random-access memory for servers. The 20-nanometer eight gigabit DDR4, which was created in December by SK Hynix, doubles the memory capacity of the previous market standard, the 20-nanometer four gigabit DDR4 DRAM. The module will be mass produced beginning early next year.

According to market research firm Gartner, the for-server DRAM market will enjoy a 37 percent annual growth on average through 2018.
