Leading K-pop trio JYJ ranked No. 1 on Tower Records’ music chart in Japan with their second full-length album, according to local media reports.

The newest album, “Just Us,” was launched in July in Korea instead of Japan, which makes the aforementioned ranking even more astonishing, industry critics say.

The album topped the monthly chart for August.

The identical album previously ranked No. 2 on another Japanese music chart, Oricon, as well.

Close to 17,000 copies of the album were sold in the first week of its release.

But when it comes to the group’s skyrocketing popularity in Korea’s neighboring country, music chart rankings are merely a single facet of a full-on craze for the group.

According to articles from Ilgan Sports, an affiliate of the Korea JoongAng Daily, JYJ’s agency is being flooded with calls from Japan inquiring about the trio’s detailed schedule for its Asia tour, which launched early last month.

A throng of 2,000 Japanese fans visited Korea earlier this year for member Kim Jae-joon’s fan meeting, which was hosted to promote “Triangle” (2014), a drama he starred in, Ilgan Sports reported.

And when another member, Kim Jun-su, held a series of concerts earlier this year in Tokyo and Osaka, the audience was a whopping 63,000 fans.

JYJ is currently on their Asian tour “The Return of the Kings” and is scheduled to perform in China on Saturday.
