KT creates mobile phone key that sends password to door

KT, the No. 2 mobile carrier in Korea, said yesterday it introduced a mobile key service stored in a smartphone’s USIM card.

KT co-developed the mobile key service with iRevo, which makes the digital door-lock brand Gateman.

The mobile carrier said it has made door locks more convenient by storing the mobile password in the USIM and transmitting it to the door lock using near field communication from a smartphone.

If users lose their smartphone, they can call the service center to delete the existing mobile key and use the door-lock’s keypad password until they are issued a new key.
