Second independent team due in March

Korea’s second independent baseball club will be established next month to help players who want to continue their careers and play professionally.

The team will not be affiliated with Korean Baseball Organization (KBO).

International Sports Group said it is joining with Hoseo University Graduate School of Sport Science to establish a club called the “Miracle” on March 20.

The Korea Baseball Academy and Korea Coaching Development Center also will assist.

Former LG Twins’ minor league manager Kim In-sik will lead the club, while former professional players like Ma Hae-young will coach.

Former LG Twins manager Kim Jae-bak will serve as “honorary professor” to give special lessons.

The Goyang Wonders, the country’s first independent baseball club, was disbanded last September after three years.

ISG said 20 players want to join the new club.

The company said it aims to create its own independent baseball league consisting of three or four clubs.
