KBO adds one more game in Pohang

The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said Thursday that 10 games will be played in Pohang, North Gyeongsang, in 2015 as a part of its effort expand the sport to a region that has no team.

The KBO said the Daegu-based defending champion Samsung Lions will play an additional game in Pohang Baseball Stadium this year. The Lions played nine games last year in the city 80 kilometers (50 miles) east of Daegu.

Pohang Baseball Stadium opened in 2012 and hosted the All-Star Game in 2013.

The KBO said the Lions will play the Lotte Giants in Pohang in June and the Nexen Heroes, last year’s Korean Series opponent, in July.

Samsung will face the SK Wyverns Aug. 6-7 and Hanwha Eagles Aug. 15-16.

In addition, the Lions will play eight pre-season games in Pohang March 7-15 due to construction at Daegu Baseball Stadium.

Opening day will be March 28, and each team will play a 144-game schedule.
