Keyvius Sampson to join Hanwha Eagles as pitcher

The Hanwha Eagles signed their new foreign pitcher Keyvius Sampson for $700,000 on Sunday.

Sampson, who stands at 1.88 meters (6 feet, 2 inches) tall and weighs 102 kilograms (225 pounds), has the ability to throw fastballs at a speed of 150 kilometers (93 miles) per hour.

“We focused on recruiting a healthy young pitcher,” said the Eagles.

Sampson was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round of the 2009 Major League rookie draft. He has since played for the Cincinnati Reds, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers and the Miami Marlins.

Sampson made his major league debut while playing for the Reds on July 30, 2015. In 31 major league games, Sampson picked up two wins and seven losses with a 5.60 ERA. In 190 minor league games, he had 48 wins and 43 losses with a 4.16 ERA.

Korean ice hockey team lose every single game in Austria

By losing 5-1 to Norway, the ninth-ranked team, the 21st-ranked Korean ice hockey team lost all three matches at the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge (EIHC) Austria 2017 II on Saturday.

Prior to their loss to Norway, Korea lost to 14th-ranked Denmark 7-4 and 8-3 to 16th-ranked Austria, finishing last in the four-team tournament.

While Korea was losing 5-0, Brock Radunske scored the team’s only goal at 10 minutes, 17 seconds, during the third period to avoid a shutout loss. Korea’s defense was considered the weakest, as they gave out 20 points. Since Matt Dalton wasn’t able to compete due to an injury, Park Sung-je and Hwang Hyun-ho took turns as goaltender.

Yun Sung-bin finishes 2nd at BMW IBSF World Cup

Yun Sung-bin finished runner-up at the 2017-18 BMW IBSF World Cup with a combined time of 1:47.65 at Lake Placid, New York on Saturday.

After the first race, Yun was third with a time of 53.89 seconds, but moved up a spot, as his combined time was 0.07 second ahead of Alexander Tretiakov of Russia.

This is the first of the Olympic Season BMW IBSF World Cup Series and Yun once again finished 0.11 second behind Martin Dukurs of Latvia, who won a total of 48 IBSF World Cup races throughout his career up until last season.
