SK starts sales of nifty self-defense lipstick
Korea’s top mobile carrier SK Telecom said Thursday it has started sales of the self-defense gadget designed to look like a lipstick. The device, dubbed My Hero, contacts the police when a user pulls out its cap in an emergency. The gadget can be carried easily, as it is only 8 centimeters (3 inches) tall. It is highly portable and inconspicuous compared to other self-defense products on the market, SK Telecom said.
The product sends out a 90-decibel alarm when users pull on its cap and automatically sends a message to the police.
It also notifies up to five pre-designated numbers with the alert, along with the location of the user.
It also records the situation for three minutes, which can be used as evidence in a potential investigation, SK Telecom said.
My Hero carries a price tag of 25,000 won ($22), which is competitive in terms of similar devices, the company added.
