Hong Sang-soo files a divorce suit

Last Wednesday, at Hong and Jo’s mediation gathering, the committee denied the divorce case because the two failed to come to an agreement on their divorce terms.
Under the current law, even those who do not have a just case for divorce can file a divorce suit, but will most likely not be accepted by the court. So, they are advised to take their case to the mediation committee at a family court. However, there are exceptional cases in which the court allows for the divorce to happen after judging that it is a failed marriage that cannot be reconciled.
The biggest influence in Hong’s decision for filing the suit was actor Kim Min-hee, right, with whom the director began a love affair in 2015. “Director Hong Sang-soo is thinking about marrying Kim Min-hee. The divorce [with his wife] is inevitable,” said a source to local outlet Sports World.
“He wanted to amicably come to terms [with this wife]. Director Hong Sang-soo couldn’t help but feel bad about having to [resort to a divorce] lawsuit. ”
