Starbucks Coffee Korea and Hyundai Card have released more details about the benefits that come with the new Starbucks Hyundai Card.

The Starbucks-branded private label credit card comes with extensive reward benefits for coffee lovers, centered around the existing Starbucks Rewards program. The card gives users one “star” reward for every 30,000 won ($26) credit expenditure on the card, either in Korea or overseas.

Starbucks star system is the digital equivalent to a coffee shop stamp card, rewarding customers with one star for every drink purchase and a free drink for Gold members once they have accumulated twelve stars.

There is no limit to the number of stars that can be accumulated through the credit card. Until now, Starbucks Coffee Korea customers have only been able to earn stars when buying drinks with a reloadable Starbucks Card. The new Starbucks Hyundai Card also takes away the need for that extra step as drinks can be bought directly with the credit card.

The two partners plan to hold special events for new Starbucks Hyundai Card subscribers.

Cardholders who spend 50,000 won or more by Nov. 30 will earn 100 stars, while those who swipe spend 50,000 won or more using the card at a Starbucks store will automatically qualify for the Starbucks Christmas e-frequency gift event. One thousand customers will be eligible for the event.

“Starbucks Hyundai Card is the first credit card Starbucks has created in collaboration with Hyundai Card,” said a Hyundai Card spokesperson. “Beyond the card products, Starbucks and Hyundai Card plan to come up with various collaboration projects in many areas such as data science and brand marketing.”

The Starbucks Hyundai Card is the first of its kind from Starbucks Coffee Korea ever since its entry into Korea in 1999. The two companies signed a partnership agreement for the credit card on June 15.

Branded cards are launched by credit card issuers, but the benefits and rewards come from the brand as a way of rewarding customer loyalty. Several global partners have chosen Hyundai Card for branded cards in the past several years, in recognition of Hyundai Card’s big data analysis and marketing capabilities.

The Starbucks Hyundai Card comes in five designs. The two partners have also come up with promotional merchandise inspired by the design such as coffee mugs and glass cups. They are available for purchase at Starbucks stores nationwide.

The Starbucks Hyundai Card has an annual fee of 30,000 won. The cards for both domestic and overseas use — via Visa and Mastercard — have the same fee.
