Ticket sales at local theaters exceed 300,000 on Children's Day

With a surge of families visiting theaters for Children’s Day, daily ticket sales on May 5 exceeded 300,000 for the first time this year.
 
Animated film “The Croods: A New Age” topped the box office on its day of release, garnering 102,000 audience members at theaters nationwide.
 
This year’s most popular films such as Pixar animated “Soul,” “Demon Slayer” and “Minari” each recorded 60,000, 66,000 and 40,000 tickets on the days they hit theaters.  
 
“The Croods: A New Age” is also the first film in 38 days since “Godzilla VS. Kong” to surpass 100,000 in daily ticket sales, which reaped 117,000 in ticket sales on the day of its premiere.  
 
Produced by DreamWorks animation, the film revolves around a cave family called the Croods who encounter a modern family.
 
Three other animated films — “Kongsuni Movie,” “Demon Slayer” and “Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet” — climbed to the top 10 films in daily box office sales.  
 
Daily box office sales for Children’s Day was tallied at 326,000, the first time daily sales surpassed 300,000 since last the Chuseok holiday period.
