SK Engineering & Construction changed its name to SK ecoplant as part of an effort to enhance its environmental image.
The company said Monday that the new name represents its ambition to go beyond construction and build its eco-friendly businesses.
The new name was approved at an extraordinary board meeting held at the company headquarters in central Seoul on May 21.
SK ecoplant is the tenth-largest construction company in Korea.
The company also plans on investing 3 trillion won ($2.7 billion) through 2023 to acquire companies with eco-friendly technologies and to develop new industrial complexes. It will expand the use of eco-friendly building materials.
The company “plans to sincerely build eco-friendly ideas and innovative technologies for the earth,” said Ahn Jae-hyun, SK ecoplant’s CEO, in a statement. It will find impactful solutions to grow into a representative Asian company that leads in ESG [environmental, social, governance].”
