An honor guard of the Korean Armed Forces carry the national flag-draped coffin of the remains of Hong Beom-do, a legendary Korean independence fighter, to the special cargo plane at Kyzylorda Airport, Kazakhstan, on Sunday. The plane was scheduled to fly to Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, in the evening on Korea’s Liberation Day. Hong Beom-do was a general who commanded a Korean liberation army unit to battle the Japanese army in Manchuria in 1920s. Hong’s remains were retrieved from a cemetery in Kyzylorda on Saturday for repatriation to his homeland, 78 years after his death in the Central Asian country. [YONHAP]
