LG U+ appointed a former data specialist for AT&T, Gabe Hwang, as its new chief data officer (CDO) to lead data-driven businesses such as artificial intelligence, the company said on Monday.

Hwang, 48, developed a data-driven business model as senior project manager for customer relationship management (CRM) management at Delta Airlines in 2004.

Most recently, he worked at AT&T as head of the Content Intelligence Practice from 2016 to 2017 and as the vice president of Product, Data Platform & Data Monetization at Warner Media, an AT&T company, from 2018 to December 2021.

As the new CDO, Hwang will be using AI and big data to offer customers more customized services mainly through online platforms such as the company’s website and mobile applications.

LG U+ will also fortify its business-to-business (B2B) services, such as developing automated customer call centers and selling the technology to other companies.

By the end of the year, the company aims to gain approval for the so-called MyData, a government-led project that allows companies to access a wider pool of information across different companies — such as bank accounts and credit cards — all at once.

“I will push forward with AI, big data and digital transformation efforts across all businesses so that LG U+ can successfully transition into an innovative digital company,” Hwang said in a press release.
