Frisch lands in 21st place after first two women's luge runs
Korea's Aileen Christina Frisch landed in 21st place after the first two runs of the women's singles luge competition at Yanqing National Sliding Centre in Beijing on Monday night.
Frisch, a German born athlete who naturalized to Korea in 2016, finished the first run in 23rd place with a time of 59.776 seconds, 1.421 seconds behind Julia Taubitz of Germany, who was in first place after setting a new track record on the first run.
She shaved 0.3 seconds off that time in her second run, at 59.642, ranking at No. 20 on that run to take her overall time to 1:59.418 seconds, 2.593 seconds behind Natalie Geisenberger of Germany in first place.
Each luge competitor gets three runs, with the top 20 advancing to a final fourth run. The winner is determined after the times for all four runs are added together. The third and fourth runs of the women's competition will begin at 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday.
Frisch previously competed for Korea at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, finishing eighth out of 30 competitors.
Frisch is one of four Korean athletes competing in the luge in Beijing. Lim Nam-kyu finished his three runs in the men's competition on Sunday in 30th place, while Park Jin-young and Cho Jung-myung are set to compete in the doubles competition starting Wednesday.
