Boy band BTS set a new record at the 36th Japan Gold Disc Award by taking home 10 awards on Monday.
The Recording Industry Association of Japan announced its list of this year’s winners on Monday. BTS won Best Asian Artist, Album of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Song of the Year by Download, Song of the Year by Download (Western), Best 5 Songs by Download, Song of the Year by Streaming, two of the Best 5 Songs by Streaming and one of the Best 3 Albums.
BTS took 10 trophies in nine categories, becoming the first non-Japanese artist to take home that many awards in Japan Gold Disc's history. BTS is also the first act to win Best Asian Artist for four consecutive years.
“We thank ARMY [fans of BTS], who always give us a lot of love, for receiving these honorable awards,” the boy band said in a statement. “Thank you so much. We will continue working hard in the future so that we can give you warmth through good music.”
Last year, BTS released hits “Butter,” “Permission to Dance” and collaboration track “My Universe” with British rock band Coldplay.
The boy band debuted in 2013 with its EP “2 Cool 4 Skool” and consists of seven members: RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook.
