Kwon Soon-woo is out of Madrid Open

Kwon Soon-woo dropped out of the first round of the Madrid Open on Monday, losing in two sets to No. 11 Cameron Norrie of the United Kingdom.  
 
On Monday, Norrie beat Kwon 7-5, 7-5 to reach the round of 32. Despite losing the match, No. 73 Kwon put up a formidable fight, pushing the No. 11 to tiebreakers in both sets.  
 
Kwon had the upper-hand in aces with 11 while Norrie had nine.  
 
Kwon won two qualifiers to reach the first round of the Madrid Open. He beat Shang Juncheng of China on Saturday after three sets. He conceded the first set after a tiebreaker 7-5 but won the next two sets 6-3, 6-4.  
 
On Sunday, Kwon beat Ugo Humbert of France in two straight sets, 7-6, 6-3 to reach the first round.
 
Last week, Kwon dropped out of the round of 16 at the Estoril Open on April 28 after Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain beat him in three sets, 7-5, 6-1, 6-2.  
 
Kwon is currently No. 73. He reached a career high of No. 55 on Oct. 4, 2021, after winning his first ATP Tour title at the Astana Open on Sept. 26, 2021.
