Navajo Nation, 1 Million Dance Studio discuss cultural exchange, collaborations

Navajo Nation Council Delegate Nathaniel Brown poses at the 1 Million Dance Studio in eastern Seoul’s Seongdong District with the studio’s principal choreographer Lia Kim on May 25 as they met to discuss cultural exchange and possible collaborations between the Navajo nation and cultural contents of Hallyu, or the Korean wave.

Prior to visiting the studio, Brown attended a ceremony on May 23 commemorating approximately 800 Navajo members of the United States military who fought in the 1950-53 Korean War.

“It was an event shortly before the 72th anniversary of the Korean War to commemorate and remember Navajo fighters who gave their lives for Korea,” said Han In-suk, honorary president of the University of Utah Asia Campus. “We will also look for ways we can financially aid members of the Navajo community who are in need.”

Around 100 Navajo veterans of the Korean War are alive today.
