Korean Film Festival in Australia to span four cities over August, September

The Korean Film Festival in Australia (Koffia) will be hosted in four Australian cities — Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane — for the next two months.

According to Korean Culture and Information Service and Korean Cultural Centre Australia on Thursday, the event will start off in Sydney from Aug. 18 to 23 and move to Melbourne from Sept. 1 to 5, Canberra from Sept. 1 to 3 and Brisbane from Sept. 8 to 11.

The opening film is “Special Delivery” by director Park Dae-min, fronting actor Park So-dam as the main protagonist. The narrative revolves around a delivery driver named Eun-ha who gets involved with police and has the National Intelligence Service on her tail as an unexpected package with a young child, portrayed by Jung Hyeon-jun, makes it into her car.

A total of 13 films such as “Decision to Leave” (2022) by Park Chan-wook, “Broker” (2022) by Hirokazu Kore-eda, “In Front of Your Face” (2021) by Hong Sang-soo, “Escape from Mogadishu” (2021) by Ryu Seung-wan, “Hommage” (2022) by Shin Soo-won and “The Roundup” (2022) by Lee Sang-yong will be screened throughout the festival.

“I hope that many people will come enjoy Australia’s biggest Korean film festival,” said Kim Ji-hee, director of the Korean Cultural Centre Australia. “I hope that the global audience can discover new sides of Korean culture and our films’ extensive spectrum through the festival.”
