Lee Zoo-young, director of Coupang Play original series "Anna" starring Bae Suzy, made a statement through her lawyer on Tuesday claiming that the streaming service made major edits to the series without her consent.

"Coupang Play excluded me the director and unilaterally edited 'Anna' and released it to the public," said Lee through her law firm Siwoo. "Not only was the length of the show cut, but it also tampered with the structure and order of the scenes which interfered with the show's narrative, filming, editing and intention."

In the statement, Lee described the version of "Anna" that was released to the public as "unrecognizable" and called Coupang Play's behavior "unprecedented in the industry."

She continued to say that she requested Coupang Play take her name out of the credits section as the director and writer of the play, but that was ignored as well.

"It has not responded to any of my comments and requests so far," she said.

In Tuesday's statement, Lee requested that Coupang Play release a public apology to her and the staff of "Anna"; that it delete her name from the edited six-episode version of "Anna"; and that it release the eight-part series that she has sent them.

"If it continues to ignore my requests, we will take legal action," she said.

Coupang Play is a subscription-based video streaming service launched by e-commerce conglomerate Coupang in December 2020.

“Anna” is a psychological thriller that was released in June 24. It is about a woman named Yu-mi, portrayed by Bae, who ditches her identity and lives as someone else named Anna because of one lie that she told.
