Spurs to face Nottingham Forest in third round of Carabao Cup

Tottenham Hotspur take on Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers face Leeds United in the third round of the Carabao Cup in November as Wednesday’s draw pits both clubs against Premier League rivals fairly early in the competition.

The seven-round Carabao Cup, also known as the EFL Cup, is open to all 92 clubs playing in the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two.

Fulham is the only Premier League club not left in the competition, after losing to League Two club Crawley Town in the second round. Three Championship clubs remain, along with six League One clubs and four League Two clubs.

Wolves earned their spot among the remaining 32 after beating Preston North End on Tuesday, while Spurs enter the tournament in the third round after qualifying for the Champions League.

Seven of the third round games will see Premier League clubs face each other, with Manchester City vs. Chelsea likely to be the most competitive fixture. Reigning-champions Liverpool are not among the 14 top-tier clubs to face their peers, instead getting drawn against League One club Derby County.

The third round of Carabao Cup games will all take place in the week starting Nov. 7, ensuring that the round if completed before the 2022 Qatar World Cup break.

The Premier League will play one more round of games before breaking for the World Cup, which kicks off on Nov. 20.
