Italian vehicle maker Iveco Group and Hyundai Motor are set to premiere a hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric van at the IAA Transportation 2022 in Hanover, Germany, that opens on Tuesday.

Dubbed Iveco eDAILY Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), the new model can travel 350 kilometers (217 miles) on a full single charge with a maximum payload of 3 tons. It will take 15 minutes to refuel the hydrogen tank.

The eDAILY FCEV comes packed with electric motors and batteries developed by Iveco and its subsidiary FPT Industrial, and a hydrogen fuel cell system by Hyundai Motor.

The fuel cell system displays 90 kilowatts of capacity while Iveco’s electric motors have 140 kilowatts.

This marks the second cooperation after the Korean automaker provided its hydrogen fuel cell to the Italian company in manufacturing its Iveco Bus.

“Following the recent announcement that Iveco BUS will equip its future hydrogen-powered buses with our fuel cells, the hydrogen-powered eDAILY is another concrete example of what we can accomplish by working together in accelerating the transition to carbon neutrality,” commented Martin Zeilinger, head of the Commercial Vehicle Development Tech Unit of Hyundai Motor Company. “The partnership formed between the two companies has proven to be very successful, and we expect greater results in the coming years.”

“Based on this prototype, we aim to roll out a small series of FCEV vans for trial with selected customers by the end of next year", said Marco Liccardo, chief technology and digital officer at Iveco Group.

The joint development is born out of an agreement signed in March, this year. With the agreement that outlines comprehensive cooperation on mobility technologies, the two will work toward cross-selling products in select regions and developing vehicle automation technology.

The German car trade show will run from Sept. 20 through Sept. 25.
