'Remember,' starring Nam Joo-hyuk, Lee Sung-min, to hit theaters next month

Revenge action film "Remember," starring actors Nam Joo-hyuk and Lee Sung-min, will hit theaters next month.

The plot centers around a man in his 80s suffering from Alzheimer’s disease portrayed by actor Lee Sung-min. When he begins to realize that his memories are disappearing, he decides to get revenge, which he has been planning for over 60 years, against pro-Japanese groups in Korea who killed his family.

However, he isn't a good driver, so he convinces a young man in his 20s named portrayed by actor Nam Joo-hyuk, to drive him once a week. The two know each other from working part-time in a restaurant. Nam's character gets embroiled in the revenge plot when his face is captured on a security camera and becomes a prime suspect in the crimes.

"When I first saw the script of 'Remember' it was captivating and I saw aspects in my character that I hadn't been able to portray before, which is why I chose to star in the film," said Nam during the online press conference for the film on Monday. "Also working with Lee Sung-min was an honor."

Lee is a 52-year-old veteran actor best known for his roles in dramas "Golden Time" (2012), "Broken" (2014), and "Misaeng: Incomplete Life" (2014) and film " The Spy Gone North" (2018).

"Nam is a great actor who can really act on his toes, which is very impressive for such a young actor," said Lee during the same press conference. "We've gotten very close as we ate and slept together throughout shooting the film. He has become a trustworthy brother to me."

Nam, 28, is a model-turned-actor who is best known for his roles in drama series "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo" (2016), "The Bride of Habaek" (2017), "The Light in Your Eyes" (2019), "The School Nurse Files" (2020), "Start Up" (2020) and "Twenty-Five Twenty-One" (2022) .

The director of the film Lee Il-hyung revealed why he cast Nam for the role during the press conference.

"I was amazed with his acting in the drama series "The Light in Your Eyes" [2019]," said Lee. "His acting was very realistic and he was handsome as well."

About the casting process of Lee Sung-min, director Lee said that he was looking for an actor who "looked friendly, yet could relay a cold side when carrying out the revenge."

"I thought that Lee Sung-min could play that role very well."

The recent role was a challenge to actor Lee, especially because of the old age of the character. He said that he suffered with his neck all throughout the filming because of the crooked position that he always had to be in during the shooting.

According to the actor, it took about four hours to get the make-up to age him on and off each day on set.

But the most difficult part about playing an elderly man was the action scenes, Lee Sung-min said.

"I thought the action scenes for someone over 80 years old would be easier, but it was actually much more hard because every movement had to be done very slowly. The idea is that he is an old man so he cannot move quickly. Acting this out took a lot of energy and effort."

“Remember” will be released on Oct. 26.
