Disney Plus will release “Vigilante,” a Korean dark-hero series, in the second half of 2023, the streaming service said Friday.

“Vigilante,” an action-thriller series, will be a dramatized version of “Vigilante” (2018-21), a Naver webtoon of the same name, written by CRG and drawn by webtoonist Kim Kyu-sam.

The plot centers around protagonist Kim Ji-young, played by actor Nam Joo-hyuk, a student at the National Police University by day and a vigilante at night pursuing and punishing criminals.

Nam Joo-hyuk is known for his roles in the tvN dramas “Cheese in the Trap” (2016),  based on webtoon “Twenty Five Twenty One” (2022), and Netflix series “The School Nurse Flies” (2020).

Actor Yoo Ji-tae, known for “Attack the Gas Station” (1999), “Oldboy” (2003) and “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” (2022), will be playing Jo Heon, a detective who pursues the vigilante, while Lee Joon-hyuk will play Jo Gang-wook, the vigilante’s supporter, and Kim So-jin will play reporter and journalist Choi Mi-ryo, who first reported the story of the vigilante.

Actor Lee Joon-hyuk took leading roles in tvN drama “Stranger” (2017), “Stranger 2” (2020), and “Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days” (2018). Lee, who started his mandatory military service last month, will also be featured in “The Roundup: No Way Out” (2023). Actor Kim So-jin is known for “The King” (2017), “The Man Standing Next” (2020) and “Escape from Mogadishu” (2021).
