Actor Park Min-young has broken up with the wealthy entrepreneur she had been dating, Park's agency Hook Entertainment said Thursday.
“Park has broken up with the man she was dating,” the agency said in a statement. “It is also not true that Park received much financial assistance from him.
“Park’s top priority is to finish shooting for the [tvN] ongoing drama series ‘Love in Contract,’” the statement continues. “We’ll do our best to make sure this does not affect the process. She will continue to take responsibility as an actor and public figure, including for her family and everyone else involved with her.”
Local media outlet Dispatch reported Thursday that Park was dating Kang Jong-hyun, described as a hidden major figure in the cryptocurrency scene as he is a sizable shareholder of Bithumb Holdings, which runs the Bithumb crypto exchange.
Dispatch also reported that Kang has ties to numerous companies that he acquired without capital.
In response to other reports by Dispatch that Park’s older sister is the independent director of the Kospi-listed company Inbiogen, a company Kang supposedly has links to, the agency said, “Park’s older sister has expressed her decision to step down as independent director.”
Kang used to sell mobile phones in 2013 and 2014 and was involved in fraud that caused him to receive a sentence of two and a half years in prison with three years of probation, Dispatch added, and had engaged in illegal loans in 2014 and 2015.
Park debuted as a model in an SK Telecom commercial in 2005. She rose to stardom through the historical coming-of-age drama series “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” (2010) on KBS and starred in a number of hit television series such as “City Hunter” (2011) on SBS, “Healer” (2014-15) on KBS, “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” (2018) and “Her Private Life” (2019) on tvN and “Forecasting Love and Weather” (2022) on JTBC.
She is currently starring in tvN drama series “Love in Contract,” which revolves around a woman who earns money by pretending to be the spouse of single men who need partners.
