Hana Financial Group holds ceremony for 'Hana Digital Power On' project
Hana Financial Group held a ceremony Thursday for the launch of “Hana Digital Power On,” a digital talent-nurturing project focusing on young people, and announced a separate plan to expand the company’s data personnel to 2,500 by 2025.
The “Hana Digital Power On” project is designed to foster digital talent in the younger generation with the aim of meeting the rapidly increasing demands for digital competency in all fields of society. The project is sponsored by the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), Google, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.
At the ceremony held at Hana Global Campus in Cheongna, Incheon, Hana Financial Group Chairman Ham Young-joo, FSS Gov. Lee Bok-kyun, Amazon Web Services Korea Country Managing Director Ham Kee-ho and Microsoft Korea General Manager Lee Ji-eun were in attendance, along with 16 teams of university students who applied for the project.
A separate technology contest themed on the convergence of finance and digital fields was also held after the ceremony, where participants discovered and presented solutions using ABCD (AI, blockchain, cloud, data) to solve relevant problems in the field.
Educational opportunities were given to participating teams in the contest, including courses and mentoring sessions on artificial intelligence, cloud and big data technologies from Google, Amazon and Microsoft. Scholarships worth a total of 25 million won ($18,000) were offered to the top five teams, with additional aid to students from low-income families.
Hana Financial Group also announced its “2500 by 2025” plan, outlining goals to expand the group’s data manpower to 2,500 by 2025. The company said that it will launch a human resource development project next year, including an expansion of internal and external education on digital technology and data.
“With Hana Financial Group, which has been leading digital finance, we have laid an important foundation for nurturing young digital talent and spreading digital education culture and infrastructure,” said Lee, governor of the FSS, at the ceremony.
“For the successful digital transformation of Korea’s financial sector, nurturing excellent digital talent is a top priority,” said Hana Financial Group Chairman Ham. “Fostering young people, who are the protagonists of the digital age, is an important social role for our company.”
