Safety committee formed for SPL, others, after mixer tragedy

.

.

A safety management committee is being formed to monitor the work environment at SPL and related companies.

On Oct. 15, a 23-year-old employee working at an SPL bread factory in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, died after getting caught in an industrial mixer. SPL is owned by Paris Croissaint, a company wholly owned by Hur Young-in.

Paris Baguette is owned by Paris Croissaint, and Hur and his family are the controlling shareholders of KRX-listed SPC Samlip.

All related companies will be inspected for safety. This process will be completed by the end of November, after which the committee will announce plans to enhance safety. Ministry of Employment and Labor-certified companies will conduct the inspections.

Four people independent of the companies will be on the committee.

Jeong Kap-young, former president of Yonsei University, has been appointed as the head of the committee. He is currently chairman of the board at Korean Air Lines and formerly worked as the head of the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea’s Audit Innovation Committee.
