Ssangyong Engineering & Construction (E&C) completed the construction of the $1.3-billion Atlantis The Royal ultra-luxury resort complex in Dubai, the builder said Tuesday.

It took about 80 months since the company began construction in July 2016 after gaining a contract from the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD) — which was Ssangyong E&C's largest shareholder at the time the project was commissioned in 2015.

As a lead contractor, Ssangyong E&C jointly built the luxury resort alongside with its Belgium-based partner Besix.

Located on the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis The Royal has 780 luxury hotel rooms and residences for 231 households.

It also has private swimming pools — including a rooftop infinity pool — aquariums and gardens.

The structure is S-shaped from above and resembles stacked Lego blocks from the front.

All guests staying in Atlantis The Royal can enjoy waterfront views of the Arabian Gulf.

Guests staying in the 520-square-meter Signature Penthouse will be offered a private infinity pool to swim among the clouds.

“There are few buildings in the world featuring curved Lego-like blocks [on the exterior],” said Han Seung-pyo, site manager at Ssangyong E&C.

"The structure is so complicated that even the 33,000 wall finishing panels are all curved."
